Agriculture applications of the AcPET system include recombinant proteins for use as vaccines for farm animals, diagnostics for detecting parasitic, pathogenic viral, fungal and bacterial diseases, as well as therapeutics for treating and monitoring the course of treatment in farm animals. Recombinant proteins can be rapidly selected that increase the activity of enzymes used to prepare animal feed and hormones for controlling animal growth. Recombinant proteins that mimic the activity of insect hormones, such as ecdysone and juvenile hormone which disrupt insect pest life cycles, can be selected for controlling insect pests on crop plants as well as control noxious pests such as mosquitoes, fleas, and flies.
